Engineering geology now extends into a host of linked fields: disaster risk management and climate change, preservation of lifelines, geophysics, interpretation of satellite imagery, communication, instrumentation, mining, tunnelling, groundwater, rehabilitation and brown-field development, wine, recyclable materials, ethics, and education. Communication with non-specialists and developing ‘green’ solutions has never been more important and the industry is evolving tools and emerging ideas to more appropriately achieve this. This Congress brings together engineering, science and practice to focus on the very real effects of active geological processes on communities and infrastructure and their development.

It is now just 15 days until the close of super earlybird registrations for the Congress. Have you registered?
There has been a HUGE response to the call for papers, with almost 600 papers received.
With this level of participation, the Congress is destined to be an event not to be missed.
The Congress will bring together a unique mix of leading international practitioners in the engineering geology, geotechnical and risk management fields. The themes of IAEG2010 investigate the continuum between engineering geology and geotechnical engineering and its application, bridging the gap between theory and practise, changing the lives of real people around the world.
Listen to and discuss state-of-the-art practice in these fields, upskill on the latest research and its applications, and learn from application of different practices in international case studies.

Over 550 papers have been received by the Congress committee. A great response.
All papers are now being distributed to reviewers and you will be getting any review comments back in due course.

Only 2 weeks to go until the final deadline for submission of papers for the Congress… how is yours going? Due date is 7 Feb.
There’s been a great response to the Call for Abstracts, some stats on the congress programme so far:
- Five plenary speakers
- Over 900 abstracts from 56 countries
- Five themes; thirty sub themes
Phew it’s going to be a busy five days plus one extra for the Young Professionals!
The planning for the YP day is coming along and there are over 70 interested YP’s registered from 29 countries in our database….so I hope your finalising your papers and planning your trip downunder.
